Jorge Kalil Filho is a medical doctor specializing in immunology, who graduated in Brazil and France. He has studied the mechanisms of immune recognition and the distinction of self and non-self, and has contributed to the understanding of the mechanisms of allorecognition, rejection and tolerance of T cells in organ transplants. He is Professor of Immunology and Director of the Immunology Laboratory of the Institute of Cardiology (InCor) of the School of Medicine at the University of Sao Paulo. He has represented the South American continent since 2013 on the Scientific Advisory Board of the UN-affiliated International Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) and has been a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences since 1995. Jorge Kalil Filho is currently working on the development of vaccines against Covid-19, HIV, Dengue, Zika and Streptococcus.
